SUMMARY:Wilderness First Aid (Yellowknife)
DESCRIPTION:Wilderness First Aid trains the candidate with a better understanding of the patients critical systems of the body: skeletal, nervous, cardiovascular, endocrine and muscular. As well, the rescuer must learn to factor and deal with delayed rescue, environmental conditions, limited resources, and multiple casualties. This training is appropriate for people driving between remote communities as it is for people working on the land.\nArctic Response Wilderness First Aid programs are developed in conjunction with rescue and medical experts from across Canada. Medical approval of this program is provided by Dr. K. DAVIS, Head of ER for Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario and the textbook used is approved by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS). This program builds upon the best practices of a variety of program providers as well as rescue procedures from the Canadian Armed Forces.\nThe main teaching points of this program includes:- Fundamentals of rescue and scene safety\n\nTriage\nVictim survivability and dealing with death\nEnvironmental injuries\nHead and spinal injuries\nWound cleaning and treatments\nSustaining care\nMedical conditions\nAnimal maulings\nAircraft crash trauma\n\nPrerequisite: Due to the intensive nature of this course, candidates are strongly recommended to take an Intermediate First Aid course before Wilderness First Aid training.\nTraining will run from 9 am to 5 pm each day with an hour break for lunch.\n***************************************************************************************************************\nCANCELLATION POLICY\nCancellations must be made 3 business days before training for a refund or credit.
