The NWT/NU Workers Safety & Compensation Commission (WSCC) Supervisor Safety Course introduces supervisors to occupational health and safety legislation, in particular the Safety Acts and Occupational Health and Safety Regulations. This in-depth program clearly defines a supervisor’s direct role and responsibilities towards workplace safety, best practices in identifying and controlling hazards, instruction in contractor safety management, and practical, industry-relevant exercises.
It is an employer’s responsibility to ensure supervisors participate in a familiarization program delivered in a format suited to the supervisor’s level of knowledge, training and experience. Upon successfully completing the program, supervisors should understand their roles and responsibilities with respect to legislation, and can competently and safely oversee the work of others. This program fulfills the due diligence of an employer to train employees at any supervisory level.
